Jack Turns 2!

Today my baby boy turns 2.  It really does not seem that long ago that I was 11 (yes, I said 11) days past my due date and wondering if our little boy was ever going to grace us with his presence.  But with lots of induction drugs and much coaxing, he finally did, with colic to boot!  Luckily the pregnancy and those first 3 months of colic have long-since passed and our little man Jack has turned into a very happy, funny and adorable little boy.

Given that his big day is falling on a Monday, we celebrated early and are just wrapping up with some good ole fashioned cupcakes to share with his friends at daycare today!  We actually had his party last weekend so that his Uncle Jeff could attend before heading back to college for his sophomore year.  Since Jack loves cars (and trains, and planes, and helicopters...), we decided to have a Disney Cars themed party.  We kept it small with just the Larsen family and a few of our friends that have children Jack knows fairly well.  We had beautiful weather (one of the great things about having an August birthday in the Pacific Northwest) and celebrated outside with a barbecue at our house.  Here are some pictures of the festivities:

Signs I made to hang on our front doors:

The cake (ordered from Safeway, not homemade)

But I did make these!  Lightyear wheels made out of Hostess Ding Dongs.  I knew I had done well when Jack came downstairs from his nap and said "wheel cakes!" after seeing these on display.

Balloons & Decorations

Centerpiece made from Jack's toys

Treat bags

Coloring table

Jumping with Kate on the trampoline

Playing baseball with Alex

 Coloring with the girls

Blowing candles out on his cake (with Mommy's help)

Enjoying the toys that came on the cake way more than the cake itself

Checking out his new Thomas backpack from Grandma & Poppa Larsen

Opening presents with Kate

Modeling his new Cars jammies from the Tessem family before heading off to bed

The following day, he opened the rest of his presents from us and Uncle Josh.  And then he opened more from Grandma & Poppa Graham and Aunt Marcia & Uncle Richard this past weekend.

Pushing Bubble Mater from Uncle Josh

Wearing his new Mater shirt and pulling his new Lightning McQueen suitcase from Grandma & Poppa Graham

I wanted to get his pictures taken this weekend, and had even purchased him a new outfit and a coordinating one for Kate.  But he managed to fall and scrape up his nose on Friday night.  So pictures have been postponed until that heals!  In the meantime, we took him out for a celebratory dinner (and ice cream sundae) at Red Robin.

Happy Birthday Jack!  It has been a wonderful last 2 years!

  1. You can count on Aunt Andrea to extend the festivities with her usual late gift! Cannot believe these boys are 2! Lots of hugs and kisses to Jack and his big sis. Xoxo

  2. LOVE the ding dong Lightyear wheels. Can you tell me how you made them? did you make a little indentation in the middle first? I'd love to make these for my boy's party. Thank you!! What a terrific idea!
