It is a long drive - about 7 hours each way, so I was dreading being in the car with a 2 year old and a 5 year old. But, thanks to my co-worker who lent us his DVD system, the kids did amazingly well. They didn't sleep a single minute in the car (can you believe it?) but managed to enjoy a few movies and other activities to pass the time.
While we were there, we visited the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport. The kids both loved it and wanted to go back the next day and the next and the next...
We also spent a lot of time on the beach hunting for shells.
Sully came on the trip too!
And of course, we spent time splashing in the ocean!
We even had sea lions on the beach right by our house.
They both really loved having a backyard full of sand! This was right outside our back door.

Worn out!
On our last day we drove down to Florence, OR. They were having a little street fair and Kate got to get the "fairy treatment".
We had lunch, walked around the shops and then ended the day with some ice cream! I got to have black licorice ice cream which is a rare treat - not easy to find!
That evening, all of Dave's family came over to our house for a dinner together before everyone had to go back their separate ways.

We had a great trip! Looking forward to our next family vacation!
